Parent and Community Involvement
Open Door
At Northern we are proud of the product we offer our students. Parents and community members are always welcome to come see us in action. Please know, that for the safety of our students and staff, certain security measures are in place at check-in. Thanks in advance for your patience.
Giant A+ Rewards:
This program was developed by Giant Foods Corporation to assist schools in fulfilling their educational needs. Each time a supporter (parent) shops at any participating Giant Store using her/his Bonus Card from October until April, our school earns A+ school rewards which translates into cash that our school can use for the benefit of students. Each year a committee of students, parents, teachers, and support staff meet to determine how to spend the money earned.
Booster Clubs:
Booster Clubs support and advance the moral, academic, and education interests of the various student activities. They provide programs and financial assistance for the students. For parents and the community, these organizations increase involvements, awareness, participation, and most importantly, communication. This is accomplished through various fund-raising projects as well as through informal support from an enthusiastic group of interested members. Additionally, parents and community members sit on the District Professional Education, Induction, Excellence in Education, and Supervision Committees.
Vo-Ag Advisory Council:
This high school organization meets several times a year. The council is limited to a maximum of nine individuals (parents & community members) from the agri-science sector.
Polar Bear Foundation:
The Polar Bear Foundation was established to invest in programs and activities that enrich the academic, athletic, cultural, and artistic development of the students of the Northern York County School District. The Polar Bear Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization which creates a vehicle for Nothern supporters to contribute tax-free dollars.
Institutions of Higher Learning:
The District has a close working relationship with Messiah College, Shippensburg University, and Harrisburg Area Community College. District representatives interact with University personnel on the Shippensburg University School Study Council. District representatives have participated in several educational forums at Messiah College in an attempt to improve their student teaching program.
Sapphire:
The Sapphire Community Portal offers parents access to their child’s attendance and grades via internet access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
