The safest way at NHS to work with an Office 365 product like Word, Excel or Publisher, is to open it first through Classlink. It immediately starts to save, even if you haven't named it yet. Name it as soon as possible though. If you need a feature that is not available through the online version, you can click "Open in Desktop App". It will continue to save your work automatically as long as autosave is on (look in the upper left corner to verify).
Working offline - if you are in a place with no wifi, you can still work on Word and save it to your One Drive folder. As soon as you re-connect to wifi, it should sync with your online One Drive.
